At the December 10 Council Meeting, Blue Ash City Council approved the ordinance authorizing the negotiation and execution of a lease agreement for Senate Pub at Summit Park.
The OTR-based restaurant will bring vibrancy and culture to Summit, as the “cool casual” restaurant to compliment Brown Dog Café’s “fine dining” feel. Senate is known for their gourmet hotdogs and street food, which will cultivate the active atmosphere for the park.
As a city, Blue Ash is full of Information Technology companies, and those companies tend to employ a lot of millennials. The goal in recruiting this “cool” restaurant is to appeal to the millennial demographic, as well as the families mentioned above.
With more trendy restaurants and activities at Summit Park, the hope is that more people who currently work in Blue Ash will stay past 5:00, and that people from surrounding neighborhoods may come in after 5:00. Senate Pub will help Blue Ash reach this goal, as well as activities like yoga on the Great Lawn, CrossFit Training, and the Farmers Market.
“We are never going to be OTR,” said Economic Developer, Neil Hensley. “But I think we are trying to create that type of atmosphere, which today’s younger workforce is looking for. We are also focusing on the ‘connected’ piece of the equation, which means more sidewalks and bike paths, so people don’t have to get in their cars as much.”
The South Building at Summit Park, closest to Glendale-Milford Road, is still looking to fill the other two vacancies with restaurants at different price points from Senate and Brown Dog. The hope is to have an ethnic restaurant and something along the lines of an ice cream parlor, where residents can grab ice cream in the summer or a hot chocolate in the winter.
